5 tips to firm up your skin after losing weight

After weight loss, sagging skin is common. And for good reason: when you gain pounds, the skin stretches to make room for the fatty tissue. During a diet, the fat disappears without giving the skin time to adapt.

Result: the more rapid and significant the weight loss, the more the skin tends to relax, despite its elasticity.

The ideal is therefore to lose weight without rushing, by adopting a balanced diet, but also by playing sports, in order to limit sagging skin.

You haven’t followed these recommendations and it is starting to show on your skin? Do not panic, there are less extreme solutions than surgery to remedy it.

The most effective of them is none other than sport: the goal is to fill the void left by fat with muscle! Several exercises can thus firm the skin located on the areas most prone to sagging skin.

Dips against the bat effect

When losing weight, the back of the arms tend to relax: this is called the bat effect. To combat this phenomenon, it is necessary to strengthen the triceps. The ideal? Make dips!

Stand with your back to a chair and place your hands on the edge of the seat. Bend your legs 90 °, put yourself on your feet, then bend your arms to go down, before going back up.

Abs to firm the stomach

The stomach is one of the areas most affected by sagging skin after weight loss. To tighten the epidermis, the abdominals can be useful. There are several kinds :

  • Sit-ups: lie on your back and flex your legs. Raise your chest to your knees with your back straight, then come back down.
  • The candle: lie on your back, arms alongside your body and hands flat on the floor. Lift your pelvis, put your legs vertically, then lower them without touching the ground.
  • The pedal boat: lie on your back, hands behind your head. Raise your legs and pretend you’re pedaling. At the same time, each of your elbows will seek the opposite knee.

Strengthening the inner thighs against sagging skin

When you gain weight, fat tends to be stored on the inside of your thighs. As a result, when dieting, this area often lacks firmness. The solution ? Build adductors!

Lie on your right side and flex your left leg, while keeping the arch of the foot resting on the ground. At the same time, stretch your right leg, before raising it vertically, then lowering it. To work your adductors even more, you can have weights on your feet.

Squats to firm the buttocks

Weight loss can cause a drooping gluteus. Squats are effective in fighting against sagging skin!

When standing, spread your feet shoulder-width apart and place your arms alongside your body. Go down by bending your legs at 90 °, then go back up. To preserve your knees, make sure that they do not exceed your toes.

Additional tips against sagging skin

To multiply the effects of these targeted exercises, a balanced diet is essential. Choose foods rich in proteins and antioxidants, which promote the production of collagen and thus help maintain the elasticity of the skin.

Good hydration is also necessary to fight against sagging skin: do not forget to drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day and to moisturize your skin using an adapted cream.
